Mark Evans of Safety Meeting, Playing at Poor David's.
Safety Meeting formed in 2014 in East Plano, Texas.
Late in 2014, Mark Evans, lead vocalist and rhythm guitar, was hosting an open mic Plano's downtown Arts District at a restaurant called Angela's at the Crosswalk. It occurred every Monday evening. It was at Angela's that Mike Smith, keyboards, showed up played a few songs, planting the seeds for what was to become Safety Meeting.
Mike loves hosting dinner parties where musicians can get together and jam in his home studio. At one such party, Erik Malm and Michael Marchioni came to hang out and see what kind of vibe could be created together. The group felt a natural connection and it was clear that there was great potential.
Enter Kris Cordell, drummer. Kris plays for Bone Doggie and the Hickory Street Hellraisers, a respected band out of Denton, Texas. Kris was invited and agreed to come and jam and the final piece immediately fell into place. Mark's home -- now where the band rehearses every week -- soon became the host ofr a weekly jam that has continue to this day.
After a couple of lame name attempts, the band settled on "Safety Meeting," as it seemed to suit the overall attitude and habits of the band.
"Life is fun. But you still have to be prepared for it," says Mark. "Safety Meeting embodies that philosophy. We have songs about life, with different moods and approaches, that also are upbeat and moving... so I think it works."
